We have established the ” Elite Athlete Charitable Trust” with the limited funds raised over the years to expand our support for elite athletes and our contribution to society.
On the fifth anniversary, Friends of HKSI published its first book on Hong Kong athletes: Meeting at the Podium: Daughters of Hong Kong’sSports. We are grateful for the sponsorship of Andy Lau Charity Foundation, the edition of Mr. Wong Yat Ming and the inscription of Nobel Laureate Professor Tsui Chee.
The success of an elite athlete relies not only on the athlete’s determination, fighting spirit and perseverance, but also on an ideal environment, which should be like a cradle full of care and love where children can grow healthily. To show our appreciation to those who have taken care of us and cared for us, we established the “Golden Cradle Award” in 1999.
Hong Kong’s first 12-hour long-distance relay run programme “Run With Your Heart” officially started in 1998! A total of eleven competitions have been launched so far, with a total of 18,784 participants, raising over HK$9.1 million of donations and endless friendship and love.
The Jubilee Sports Centre Scholarship Athletes Programme has been launched since 1987. However, in 1996, a large number of athletes retired. In order to maintain the friendship developed over the years, the managers of the Sports Institute initiated their support. On April 14, 1996, Friends of HKSI was officially set up in the Jubilee Sports Centre (predecessor of the Hong Kong Sports Institute), which had 58 members and selected the 1st Executive Committee. The establishment of Friends of HKSI marked the birth of the one and only independent athlete organisation and non-profit association in Hong Kong.
